Before modern production planning, streamlined workflows and digital valiation processes can make an impact at Gebro every day, there is an important step behind the scenes – a complex but essential transition: the comprehensive migration from the old SAP ECC 6.0 system to the modern SAP S/4HANA.

Together with Axians, not only was the technical conversion implemented, but validation was also digitalized and the PP/DS module (SAP APO) was introduced – a sophisticated combination of technology, regulation and process optimization. These far-reaching changes create the basis for a future-proof and significantly more efficient system landscape that supports Gebro at its locations in Austria, Switzerland (Alpinamed) and Spain.

The challenge: Outdated system statuses, regulatory requirements and parallel project strands

Gebro Pharma relies on stable, validated systems – a must in the pharmaceutical industry. However, the old SAP system status presented the company with several challenges:

  • Old SAP system status requires technical upgrade before conversion
  • Validated ERP landscape – every change requires documentation & coordination
  • Parallel introduction of Polarion for digital validation
  • Implementation of SAP APO (PP/DS) in addition to the S/4HANA project.
  • All core processes affected (SD, MM, PP, FI/CO, WM, QM)

Together with Axians, Gebro converted the existing SAP ECC system to SAP S/4HANA in order to modernize the ERP landscape technically and prepare it for future requirements. In addition to the conversion, the old system was upgraded in advance, validation was digitized and rebuilt with Polarion. At the same time, Gebro introduced PP/DS to improve production planning at the sites in Austria and Switzerland.

Close collaboration with the specialist departments was a key success factor. The teams tested the new processes intensively and ensured that they met the regulatory requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. This resulted in a stable, modern and harmonized system basis that will support Gebro in all processes in the long term.
